So I find out yesterday that it is a common misconception that a ‘blue moon’ is the second full moon in a month. This was due to an erroneous report in the 1946 issue of Sky & Telescope that apparently stuck! A blue moon is actually supposed to be the third full moon in a season that has four of them! And THIS is the summer Blue Moon. It’s also the Full Sturgeon Moon, the Full Red Moon, the Green Corn Moon and the Grain Moon!! Who knew? And the next blue moon is not until 2015. So. There ya go. Oh and this one? Shot with a Canon 7D with a 400mm f/5.6 handheld because I’m an idiot and forgot my tripod!! Maybe I’ll remember in 2015.
