Orion 10×42 Waterproof Monocular (Black)

When you want close-up views of distant objects, but have limited space for optical gear, a quality monocular is your best bet. Sometimes, a binocular or spotting scope is simply too large and cumbersome to bring along on family trips to the beach, sports games, or on camping excursions to scenic locations. The Orion 10×42 Waterproof Monocular is conveniently compact and portable, so you can enjoy magnified views of distant wildlife, birds, scenery, sporting events, and even the Moon without packing a lot of bulky equipment. What’s more, its rugged, rubber-armored body and waterproof construction make the Orion 10×42 Monocular ideal for use in virtually any weather conditions. The Orion 10×42 Waterproof Monocular is advantageously small in size, but it provides big optical performance thanks to its 42mm aperture objective lens and quality BK-7 roof prism. All optical surfaces of the 10×42 Waterproof Monocular are fully multi-coated to ensure maximum light throughput so you can enjoy bright, vivid views, even in low-light conditions during dusk and pre-dawn hours. The monocular’s wide 5.9 degree field of view provides a nicely sized window with 10x power magnification, so it’s easy to track moving target objects during use. But what if that bird you’re looking at decides to land on the very tree you’re standing under? Not to worry -the Orion 10×42 Monocular features an amazing near focus distance of just 20-Inches – more than adequate for viewing even extremely close-by quarry with 10x power magnification. Eyeglass wearers will appreciate the Orion 10×42 Waterproof Monocular’s comfortable, 17mm long eye relief, as it allows you to leave corrective lenses on during use. For those who don’t wear glasses, or who prefer to remove them when using optical instruments, the 10×42 Monocular features a twist-up rubber eyeguard to help properly position your eye to take in the entire field of view comfortably.

Inexpensive Monocular Read More~~ The Orion 10×42 Waterproof Monocular is a pretty good monocular for $40. Its made of a soft yet durable material to withstand scratches and hopefully accidental drops. It comes in a case (really just a cloth cover, it won’t protect the monocular very much from drops), and a lanyard that hooks onto the hole where a stand should screw in. It has a big focusing wheel near the end and a fine focusing wheel near you. It has an eyepiece that is meant for non-glasses viewers when unscrewed and for glasses when screwed up.I mainly had two problems: I kind of wanted the focusing to be farther, but the farther the monocular can see, the harder it is to have it stay still (which is why a stand comes in handy), and the monocular is BIG. It is about six inches long and about an inch wide. I wanted something pocket-sized, but w/e it’s fine. I searched for a while for an inexpensive monocular that gives crystal clear vision. If you are looking for what I was and don’t really mind the size, then this monocular is the way to go. Just be SURE to CHECK the magnification; make sure it fits your needs. As a quick reference, 10×42 means HOW MUCH MAGNIFIED x HOW MUCH LIGHT IT CAN TAKE IN. Hope this review was helpful :)

A lot for a little… I was in the market for an inexpensive monocular for animal behavior observations. Something that was portable, durable, waterproof, and uncomplicated. Having had a lot of experience with optics fron Orion, including owning a telescope of theirs that I just love (the XT12 Intelliscope Dobsonian, modded with Televue lenses, Starlight Instruments focuser, and ScopeBuggy). I saw the new 10×42 monocular and it seemed to be just what I was looking for. This little thing is just great. It comes with with a little neck cord that cleverly screws into the base where a tripod or monopod would go, and it has a carrying case. The optics are Orion-quality — sharp and bright — with magnification that provides resolution but not at the expense of clarity. For the price, the features of the Orion monocular far exceed what it costs. Orion, again, delivers on its promise. Thanks to them for producing such a fine product.
